New Posting from my new Samsung Galaxy SIII
Going to take some getting used to. Swipe is cool tech but not intuitive. Big screen for a phone but much smaller than I'm used to.

New Where can I find a *normal* ringtone?
You know, one that sounds like a fucking phone ringing?

There's a bunch of apps in the Google Play store, but the first four I checked all wanted access to the internet. Fuck that.
--

Drew
New It can play anything as a ringtone.
Or it should be able to. (I would have thought you knew that.) Find a suitable sound on your PC, upload it, find it in the music player and tell it "Use as Ringtone".

Wade.

New It's the "find a suitable sound" part I was looking for
I don't have any ringtones. This is my first smartphone, so I've never needed to collect phone sounds.

Drew
New Look for "WAV" files...
and listen to them on your computer(s)...
then once you find one you like... try it on the phone and if its loud enough... and pleasant enough... use it.

Also MP3 work as ringtones...

It's the ring from the counter-terrorism unit on 24.

Did you use zedge?

Peter Griffin (Family Guy)
New Nope, just Googled it

Drew
New Neat. Thanks.
A friend at work has an iPhone with an old fashioned telephone ring-tone. It's quite loud and really gets your attention.

Zedge seems to run fine on my Archos tablet.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Mount it as an..
MTP device and add any ringtone you want.

You'll see where.

And why is it *NONE OF THEM ARE EFFING LOUD!!!!!?*

New Re: Posting from my new Samsung Galaxy SIII
I got the Nexus...

Make sure you turn off the location services as it wakes the phone up *ALOT*... unless you are using them.

I'm very pleased with the Nexus... does everything and more that I need it to do and with good enough battery life. I'd love 10 days of battery.
New That's right, I forgot about that
That's one of many things it prompted me for, I couldn't remember which I wanted to skip. Thanks.

Drew
New So why doesn't GPS work without location services?
Google maps gets my location if I have the WiFi location services turned on, but with that off (and GPS on) it gets nothing.
--

Drew
New I don't have the same issue...
If I tell it Stand Alone GPS... I get location but without 3ft accuracy.
New Doesn't have that option
I can turn GPS on or off. I can turn location services -- which in this context means WiFi -- on or off. I can allow apps (including Google Maps) to use location services. I don't see where I can allow apps to use GPS.
--

Drew
New Figured it out
If I use the Google Maps app, it works with just GPS. Is I use maps.google.com from the internet app, it requires location services to be on.
--

Drew
New Location services wakes the phone up a lot!
And sucks down huge battery levels.

If I don't need it I turn it off. I use the Google Maps App and does me best for my purposes anyway.
