...plays a recurring role in Nevil Shute's last novel, Trustee from the Toolroom, a magnificent piece of storytelling. Out of print in this country, I believe, but readily available used. Shute was no great shakes as a prose stylist (and seemed to think that a character's American-ness was adequately conveyed by having him begin every other sentence with "Say,"), but he could get you from beginning to middle to end like nobody's business. Highly recommended.
