New Camera - Canon EOS 550D

Got it yesterday to replace my elderly PowerShot S3 IS, and to get started with this DSLR business. I bought it with the 18-55mm kit lens. Well made and laid out, with a big bright LCD. Shutter speeds up to 1/4000. ISO 100-6400. Shoots 1080p video. 18 megapixels. Can shoot RAW and JPG at the same time (or separately). Fun fun fun!

I recently came across a brief discussion of "high dynamic range" images and this - http://lightcompressor.com/ I've been wanting to try it before we go to the mountains again. I've got lots of pictures from the Banff area that are all washed out because the dynamic range of the images was so much less than the available light. Just yet another thing to do with my "spare time". <sigh> ;-) Thanks. Cheers, Scott.
