Voyager 1 about to formally leave solar system
Plowing through the solar system's unexplored frontier, NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft has entered a region of stagnant solar wind and magnetic pressure and is on the precipice of crossing over into interstellar space, scientists said Monday.
The solar system formally ends when the solar wind gives out. Voyager has reached the border zone, where the solar wind gives way to interstellar forces. This is totally uncharted territory though, so nobody knows how large the border is.
