RepubliCANT arrogance, exhibit #40,567
FridayÂs exchange came in a hearing of the House Natural Resources Committee, where Brinkley testified that the country should protect and preserve the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge from oil and gas exploration.
Young, who supports drilling in ANWR, sparked the fireworks when he called BrinkleyÂs testimony Âgarbage and then mistakenly called Brinkley ÂDr. Rice.Â
ÂItÂs Dr. Brinkley. Rice University is a university, Brinkley said. ÂI know you went to Yuba (Community) College.Â
Visibly angry, Young shot back, ÂIÂll call you anything I want to call you when youÂre in that chair. You just be quiet.Â
Brinkley retorted: ÂYou donÂt own me. I pay your salary. I work for the private sector and you work for the taxpayer.Â
Committee Chairman Doc Hastings, R-Wash., stepped in to break up the argument, which was recorded by C-SPAN and since has drawn thousands of online viewers.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from."

What's a republicant, anyway?
Is that like a boring version of a replicant?

More like childish
Just schoolyard name calling. Since it's all done with recycled electrons, there's no harm done. Outside of exasperation.

and when there are leaks, will the RepubliCANTS
let the oil companies off the hook, the way they've been fighting to cover BP's ass in the Gulf of Mexico for the past year? Gulf states can run all the ads on tv that they want, but they can't hide from the known damage of millions of gallons of oil and close to a million gallons of oil disperent sprayed into gulf waters that isn't bio-degradable.

They got a few strings
http://www.reuters.c...TRE7A77FL20111108
Representative Ed Markey, the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee, praised the plan for keeping the East Coast free of drilling.
"We still don't know the answers about the long-term effects of the BP oil spill on the fisheries of the Gulf, and East Coast fishermen would rather never even have to ask those types of questions about an Atlantic spill," he said in a release.
Since the BP accident, Republicans and oil state Democrats have complained that the Obama administration has needlessly pulled back on offshore drilling and taken actions they say sacrificed jobs and energy security.
Several of the Republican contenders for the presidential nomination have made increased domestic drilling a major part of their plans to bolster the economy.
The American Petroleum Institute called the administration's plan a good first step, but wanted additional areas opened.
You're welcome

so you've saying that President Obama
is blowing smoke and covering up for BP's refusal to be financially responsible for polluting the Gulf of Mexico?
Got proof, or is this another straw man?

executive branch
NEW ORLEANS Â BP will no longer be responsible for cleaning up oil that winds up on shores of the Gulf Coast unless officials can prove it comes from the company's well that blew out in 2010, causing the worst offshore spill in U.S. history, according to a plan approved by the Coast Guard and obtained by The Associated Press on Tuesday.
