Ok, so I decided to play with 64 bit Windows XP on these machines.
Its only taken 6 hours to update from Windows XP x64 SP1. That is a marked improvement over my Dads' AMD5400+ with 4GB of RAM which took about 83 hours to do the same from WindowsXP Home SP1.
I've installed a Windows7 Ultimate on a separate Disk drive.... Ultimate PITA. Is this what Microsoft has to offer? Really? Are they *really* banging down door with this stuff.
I mean... Really? even with all the Whizbang things enabled its no better than Debian Wheezy with all of its Whizbang enabled. And the Debian run better.
Reason I did the updates for XP was that the LightScribe DVD Writer had a problem and needed firmware updates... and so did the Quadra FX3500. Both updates released by HP ONLY ran on WindowsXP or later.
Bleah... I swear if I ever go back to Windows for real work, I'll quit using computers. Windows is *JUST THAT HORRIBLE* to me.
