New Abbas to press Palestinian State at UN
http://www.nytimes.c...Vote.html?_r=1&hp
The Palestinian president announced Friday that he would seek recognition of a Palestinian state at the Security Council of the United Nations next week, a move strongly opposed by Israel and the United States and adding significant tension to one of the most intractable conflicts in the Middle East.

Touchy situation, and one that puts the US in a bad position. Both approving and blocking this could have bad results and uncertain long term consequences. I really don't know what Obama will do here, as his administration has had a rather touchy relationship with Israel.

New they are a free people and have the right to be free
of course they can screw it up but liberty is essential

New They've been amazingly patient.
I don't blame them for being tired of waiting. Bibi clearly isn't interested in giving up his dream of Greater Israel, so no agreement is going to happen on his watch. I don't blame Abbas for wanting to break the log-jamb.

But it's hard to see things getting better soon, and it's easy to see ways for things getting much worse. For example - http://www.balloon-j.../#comment-2780333

Maybe Obama will figure out a way to finesse this - would be amazing if he did and if it actually lead to progress.

Cheers,
Scott.
New well he does owe the world for the nobel peace prize

New the world didn't give him the nobel peace prize
only the Nobel Foundation did.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from."

-- E.L. Doctorow
New Yeah but Nobel blew up the world...
ergo he owes the world for the prize...
I hope this is taken the way its meant
New Nah...
Nobel stabilized nitroglycerin with sawdust, inventing dynamite. The nitwits that put in a det cap and sparked it up were the ones who blew up the world. In any event, it was just a refinement. The type of mind that invents new ways to make people, places, and things go away in a flash has been around since fire was domesticated.
In my opinion, numbnuts was given the peace prize in the hopes that it would then embarrass him to act like the the previous faux cowboy moron. Doesn't appear to have worked.
