New Re: aigher education bubble has popped
Well, my son has all but decided that he's not bothering with University.

Can't say as I blame him. He hates writing essays, and he hates being in debt.

At the moment he's looking for an apprenticeship.

Good lad.
New He should go into iron working.
Its ALWAYS going to be around and ALWAYS going to be needed.

Plus if he gets good enough, he can make the POST Boxes for the Royal Mail, provided he works at the right place.
New Re: He should go into iron working.
He's looking at being a chef.

The money's not great, but it's pretty steady work. Even in a downturn, people like to eat out.

ETA: I would of course have liked it had he been minded to go to uni and get a degree and then a "proper" job, but he's a happy camper right now, and you can't buy or study that.

New Actually, you can study that.
My brother and his wife had a couple of foster kids, sisters, for a short while.
About a year, when they where 13 and 15.
It seems they bonded so well my brother ended up paying for a large chunk of their lives for the next 10 years, including college.
One of them studied some type of ecological major.
She spent a lot of time in the woods, was camping, was very happy, and got college credit for it.

She changed her name from what her parents gave her to "Sky" at that point.

When she got married, it was in the middle of the woods on a mountain, way out west. I believe my brother paid for a bunch of porta-potties for the event.
New Money *CAN* be good...
If he ends up running a kitchen/line.

He could always open a new pub with fresh good eats. People will always pay a bit more for quality food... in a sit down restaurant.

Fast food... cardboard taste it is.

Anyway, good luck for him for doing what he wants to do.

My youngest is leaving for College TOMORROW MORNING! Praise <deity>!

She is excellent at Math and show excellent initial talent as a Statistician, but wants to do something in Languages.
