Is starting the discussion by giving away more than the opposition asks and conceding down from there really compromise? Is it even bargaining in good faith for his base? I don't think so. His premise is good, but it does not apply to what he's doing.
Fitting his actions to the results makes him an undercover Republican. For his next term he should run as a Republican. He'd be a good one.
