Scott Adams has a fairly checkered past of pushing various pseudoscience. He has backed various bogus ideas at different times. Though it isn't always clear if he actually believes them or is just pushing them to draw people.

He is a regular guy who has parlayed one moderately funny strip into a career. That doesn't make him a genius or even particularly bright. It's one of the more common failing of logic that people assume that successful and wealthy people are generally competent. Even the ones that did work their way up are often just good at one specific thing. Adams problem is pretty typical of these people, particularly when they have been propped up long enough to begin to believe it themselves.
