New exim4 configuration question
So I've had a static IP address here at home for about a decade or more. I've always been 64.53.181.95.

A year or so ago, I got me a Linode for hosting some of Mavelous Web Design's clients. As a part of the setup over there, I created and configured exim4 to relay mail for my home static IP address.

Since last night (Tuesday March 15), my Linode has stopped relaying mail for me here at home. The error message in the logs is:

2011-03-16 20:17:24 no IP address found for host 53-64-95-181.static.nap.wideopenwest.com (during SMTP connection from [64.53.181.95])

Before last night when I noticed this, I hadn't logged onto the server in over a week, and it was sending messages just fine in that time (and has been since I set it up last year.) From that server:

[mike@blue exim4]$ nslookup 53-64-95-181.static.nap.wideopenwest.com
Server: 72.14.188.5
Address: 72.14.188.5#53

** server can't find 53-64-95-181.static.nap.wideopenwest.com: NXDOMAIN

[mike@blue exim4]$ host 64.53.181.95
95.181.53.64.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer 53-64-95-181.static.nap.wideopenwest.com.

I've attempted to reconfigure exim last night and today to get it fixed, but nothing I try works. My emails aren't going anywhere.

Is this a problem with exim, or with WideOpenWorst?

From the looks of this from my server in Troy:

AND this (google's DNS servers):

The problem appears to be with the delegation host/setup for WOW, they don't have the ARPA reverse names that are pointed to setup properly.

For now you can put in you /etc/hosts to fix it up for them for now:

64.53.181.95 53-64-95-181.static.nap.wideopenwest.com
64.53.181.95 whatever.something.com
64.53.181.95 whatever2.something.com

New Yep
I was able to send out the emails that had been backed up in my outbox tonight when I got home from work. Le oh well.

Thanks Greg.

             Yep - (mvitale)

Perhaps someone needs to clarify a few items in the process so we can actually complete the process.
