![]() Mom's new 11" MacBook Air sure is snappy, even with that slow CPU, so I'm sold on the idea of getting an SSD drive. However, I'm looking at a new 17" MBP this year, but can't see spending an extra $1100 for a large enough SSD for my needs. I suspect it'll be a lot more affordable next year as SSD competition seems to be ramping up, so I'm planning to replace the drive then.

![]() I've seen lots of people in the video production field who use an SSD for the OS and apps, and a second drive (internal or firewire) for data.

![]() I use the 800 FireWire for my Time Machine drive. However, I'd prefer not to for data as it means it's more of a hassle when traveling (especially when I visit my brother - he has 4 boys).
I could always go this route and replace the optical with another drive, but likewise I'd rather leave it in place as I still use it often enough. http://eshop.macsale...puting/DDAMBS0GB/ |

Micron RealSSD SATA III drive ... benchmarked at about double AppleÂs BTO option(!!) on read speed (450MB/sec) and 50% faster writes (260MB/sec). |
