It will take about 3K which I dont have to replace what was taken I have used exclusively MAC's for the last few years. Im posting from a compaq 2gz athalon with 3gb ram running linux I picked up for $200 to get the kid going back to his online schooling. My work supplied xp notebook is unusable out of the office. Now I have been looking at a new macbook I can maybe get after I figure out how Im going to do my taxes by hand but I was looking at a new HP with Windows 7 for $800 that includes a full paid for suite of MS Office (not the 60 day trial) that I can get now on an easy pmt plan So is windows 7 very vulnerable or have they tightened up? Prices might be dropping on older ones - http://www.macrumors...otential-refresh/ 2) I recently took over a Win7 laptop at work. I'm still configuring it, but so far I don't like it much. The GUI is very different from Win2k or XP... If you haven't used it yet, try to play with it in a store. I got a couple of books to study up on. 3) There are many versions of Office. Make sure any one you get has what you need (a recent preload at work got a version of Office without PowerPoint). 4) Apple has payment plans, too. :-) I think just about everyone does, or has their own credit cards - even Amazon (but the requirements may differ). Be careful to understand the terms if you finance it... 5) I doubt that Win7 can be instantly rooted the way earlier versions (supposedly) could be when attached to the Internet, but it is still Windows. Post #339,182 by scoenye 1/29/11 3:16:20 PM Reply	It is still pretty bad Working for a school these days, during our student office hours, we get a steady diet of infested Vista and W7 laptops. IE is an ever popular attack vector. And there are so many autoload points now that a quick manual cleanup is neigh-on impossible. The Alureon/TDL rootkit has grown the capability to circumvent W7's signed driver mechanism so if you do get W7, expect your Google search links to go anywhere but the intended destination on of these days...
