![]() Sounds like some tinfoil hat ravings, but probably around a kernel of truth. What's your take?

![]() If Attachmate is buying a Linux business, why would they allow the Unix copyrights to be sold off to a Microsoft led consortium which could cause them major annoyance?
It is possible those "valuable intellectual properties" were not in the package. |

![]() The CPTN (Microsoft) deal is for patents.
"Patent Purchase Agreement Also on November 21, 2010, Novell entered into a Patent Purchase Agreement (the ÂPatent Purchase AgreementÂ) with CPTN Holdings LLC, a Delaware limited liability company and consortium of technology companies organized by Microsoft Corporation (ÂCPTNÂ). The Patent Purchase Agreement provides that, upon the terms and subject to the conditions set forth in the Patent Purchase Agreement, Novell will sell to CPTN all of NovellÂs right, title and interest in 882 patents (the ÂAssigned PatentsÂ) for $450 million in cash (the ÂPatent SaleÂ)." http://www.sec.gov/A...510265965/d8k.htm |

![]() Accept it.
Novell is finally dead. |
|
![]() Dead.
In fact they have been dead for more on 7 years. I'm worried about the UNIX stuffs being used to beat "profits" out of Linux End Users. |
|
![]() Or enforce the patents?
The side consortium, that is. |
|
![]() There isn't any clarification being provided either.

![]() Which patents are we talking about Yes I know 882 patents...
Which ones... Many people come up with about 142 short on Patents Novell and SuSE have. Seems like there is no list of Patents included in the 882 |

![]() http://www.macrumors...-for-450-million/
Foss Patents reports that a joint venture company involving Apple, Microsoft, Oracle, and EMC has acquired 882 patents from Novell for a sum of $450 million. Novell is undergoing a transition as it has been acquired by software company Attachmate, and the patent sale is part of the acquisition deal. FWIW. Cheers, Scott. |

![]() Just what I need.
The four most litigation happy companies/corporations I know of in the IT world. Of course not counting the Patent trolls... which I think perhaps this might just have become one. |
