Welcome to IWETHEY!

New Today will be bad...
We just got the roof re-caulked and the smell was pervading the entire house when the AC was on, so now it's open windows and attic fan. Everything is sticky and smells wet.

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New Yes, today looks bad already....
With rain and its already 73F and hazy...

Rain has been coming in West to East bands. Saturating the ground... we are getting seepage in the basement now... we have only had it once in 17 years... three times so far this year alone.

We had standing water on Thursday everywhere outside for about a half an hour... rain coming down at such a clip its just collected and stayed... no place to go.

Bleah... seems weather this year is pretty extreme.
New Already 79 here
We were supposed to go picking blueberries with friends. Decided to put it off until tomorrow. (Heat is supposed with thunderstorms tonight.)

Instead, they've told us about a place where the creek is 4 feet deep and you can go swimming. Didn't know about that.

New Lightning strike(?) took out power across the street
We were having dinner at the in-laws' last night for Lou's birthday. They were just about to start cooking when there was a rumble and everything shut off. Looks like the transformer at the end of the street went bye-bye. They crashed on our couches because our A/C is still on.

Now I think that if it had been lightning they would have heard a bang. It was probably just overloaded from everyone having their A/C on, and cooking dinner at the same time.

Just got up (8 a.m.) and power is back on.

Fnarr!

In other news, it will probably top out at a very pleasant 24 C today. That's 75 in colonial units.
New Re: Today will be bad...

Everything is sticky and smells wet.

That's normal for Houston at least 6 months out of the year. After all, the town is built upon a swamp.

"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from."
