The one thing Apple are lying about is the 3 million sales figure. That's patently bullcrap. From the number of people on the Internets commenting on the issue authoritatively and thus indicating experience of the issue, its clear that Apple have sold at least 126 million iPhone4's. Otherwise that would indicate that a lot of people are complaining about a phone they have never used, and that would never happen, obviously.
A lot of tech sites, The Register included, are making a lot of hay out of this.
I'm increasingly amused by the sheer venom directed at Apple not by their customers, but by people who don't buy their products and don't intend to. If you've got an iPhone 4 (or are intending to get one) and it fucks up when you put your thumb on the spot, fair enough; get annoyed. If you don't - well, how about a nice warm cup of shut the fuck up?
I'll be getting an iPhone 4 in due course (I'm stuck with my BlackBerry* for another 12 months; it's increasingly obvious that it's a great phone, and brilliant messaging device, but the thing's a total washout for internet/games/etc) and you know what? If it doesn't work right, I'm going to send that mofo back and then get something else.
Radical, eh?
*I lost patience (easy, Bill, not you) with the Storm2 - the problem with the phone losing control of the touch screen became untenable - and got it swapped for a 9700, which is probably the best business phone I've ever used. The screen is excellent, the battery life immense thanks to its 1500mAh battery and the build quality is peerless. But the browser is shit (even Opera 5 Mini), the wireless is cranky (doesn't like Netgear routers) and the app ecosystem is dire.
