New "authors never forgive bad reviews"
When I wrote my first manual, somebody wrote a really nasty review of it.

My well-meaning co-workers and mentor tried to keep it from me.

I found it by accident. I was absolutely thrilled. Somebody cared enough to hate my opus! I made that much of an impact! Of course, my reviewer was a dumbass who knew nothing about industrial software and wouldn't know a good manual if it bit him in the ass, which is pretty much what happened, but still, I made a difference!

New There was a time.. way-back in military school..
before I ascended to sufficient rank-ishness to be sheltered from such drillings:
wherein a particularly complex sequence of flanking commands was uttered by some self-important ossifer-cadet.

At it's 'conclusion', with a certain amount of chaos within the ordered-ranks -- said self-important ossifer-cadet uttered the iconic words, for Real:

"Everyone is out of step but [moi]" !!
