Apple seems to be getting better and better about power management (at least in their laptops). That may (I dunno for sure) be an area where the iPhone is still better.
Apple's form of power management on the iPhone is to not let 3rd party apps run in the background. It's going to be really interesting to see what happens to iPhone battery life when OS 4.0 comes out.
There is a distinct percentage of apps in the Android store with comments about them being a battery hog. There are also apps that let you manage what things you can to improve battery life. Including shutting down unruly apps.
