Longest was over 33 inches long and barely over 1 inch diameter. http://www.clovegard...ed/gd_snakez.html (middle picture) Gourds cook a lot differently than squash. They get very tender, but never get mushy or lose the shape they were cut to. They generally have a light, pleasant flavor.

Post #323,641 by Andrew Grygus 3/29/10 12:33:38 AM Reply	The most familiar edible gourd is the Winter Melon . . . . . also known as Ash Gourd, which is featured in many Chinese soups and Indian curries. Unlike other gourds it is eaten when nearly mature. It's also eaten in the immature stage like most gourds, but then it's called a "Fuzzy Melon". Angled Luffas have been common in Southern California for decades, but I don't know how available they are elsewhere. Of course you could use smooth luffa (the kind that grows up to be a bath sponge) but they aren't as common around here as the angled variety. This was one of the first recipes on my site, so I had to re-run it and bring the format up to current standards. http://www.clovegard...s/isv_luffa1.html
