New Chile quake moved all of South America
http://news.discover...-chile-quake.html
New evidence released from Ohio State University (OSU) shows that the 8.8-magnitude mega-quake that struck off the coast of Chile last month was so powerful that multiple South American cities were picked up and physically moved from their original locations.

The effects of the temblor that struck Concepcion, Chile, were felt as far away as Brazil and the Falkland Islands in what is believed to be the fifth largest quake ever recorded.

Information computed from the location of GPS units at universities and research stations was compared for their pre and post quake positions. The end result is that all of South America was probably shifted west about an inch and locations close to the quake may have moved by a foot or more.

It's really quite mind boggling when you think about the kind of energy that must have been involved.
