New Plone?
Hi,

I'm thinking about investigating a data distribution intranet for several of us who need to look at a variety of data (PDFs, spreadsheets, PPTs, data files, etc.). We're not interested in spending a lot of time on it, but I want something that is extensible and that will grow with us. We're a Winders shop, but don't want to spend any money on this. Most of us aren't programmers, and those that are don't have much overlap in their language skills. The idea of having a quasi-central repository of data that needs to be shared (rather than having masses of shared folders and duplicated and out-of-date versions) is appealing.

Wikis have never clicked with me, and the idea of forcing everyone to use Wiki-words is a non-starter. Lots of Wiki's I've seen have been terribly slow, too.

I've briefly seen mention of "Plone" and it seems to have been designed for this type of application. I see it's built on top of Zope and my understanding is that that had nasty consequences for the previous incarnation of IWeThey. :-(

Any thoughts, plus or minus, on going this route? Is there something that might fit better? Plone 4 is apparently due on May 1 - http://dev.plone.org/plone/roadmap . Should I wait?

Thanks.

Cheers,
Scott.

New Atlassian Confluence
http://www.atlassian...tware/confluence/ -- Get started (up to 10 users) for just $10.

This, along with Atlassian's Jira for defect tracking, is something I'm considering for Mavelous Web Design to replace the completely free Redmine.
