Hurry back for the potential rain turning to snow
that weather forecasters are predicting will hit Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, the lucky counties expecting snow are all to the north of Houston.
"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow |

Return tomorrow evening :-/
My flight's supposed to land at 5 pm tomorrow evening. I'm flying into Miami, then to Houston, as we had to fly American Airlines - Continental wouldn't allow my parent's dogs on their direct flight.

Finally got around to uploading the photos from my trip to Trinidad.
http://spiceware.org...lery/Trinidad2010 shark & bake sandwich: http://spiceware.org...idad2010/P1010450 Bake refers to the bread. There's a table set up with condiments, I put shredded cabbage, pineapple and a green sauce on mine. |

Too green.
That's a lot of sandwich!
The countryside certainly is green! "Call Meh on Mih Digi" :-) Thanks for posting the photos. It looks like a beautiful and very interesting place. Cheers, Scott. |

That it is
The scenery was awesome.
The drivers were something else. On the skinny side streets(the ones with the big drop offs) the oncoming drivers would often be in our lane. That was a bit nerve wracking in town and rather stressful on the mountainside road to Maracas Bay. They have a few highways, but nothing like our freeway system in that there's stoplights everywhere on the highway. They've started putting in flyovers (overpasses) to help ease traffic, but they have quite a ways to go. We ate at a chinese restaurant one day and that was an experience. I asked for chopsticks and got a puzzled look from the waitress who wandered off muttering "Chopsticks?!?!" - none were forthcoming. The appetizers were great, the food only so-so. We received honey-lime after-dinner mints - I thought that was interesting so tried one and promptly spit it out. I rechecked the wrap to determine that yes, these were really cough drops. Going to the grocery stores certainly made me appreciate what we have in the states. They're currently under some serious water rationing. My folks have a 400 gallon tank in their backyard that fills up when the water's running (you can see a tank like it in the top-left of the "rubbish" photo). Mom's taken to doing laundry only when the water's running to save the 400 gallon tank for the essentials. Right now they're only getting water a couple days a week. http://www.trinidade...news?id=161598746 |

hmm rainy season is still a month or two off
