Who uses a Linux music library program?
I'm getting annoyed at Rhythmbox and it's UI. I realized this morning that it's trying to ape iTunes, which I also dislike.
So what do other people use/recommend/hate that I could have a look at? Just rummaging in the package list in Ubuntu, I see a few, some of which I recognise, many I don't. There's amarok, banshee, gmusicbrowser, jajuk, kyamo, ... and quite a few clients for MPD.

XMMS
There are three basic types of music players on Linux:
1. Those that want to be iTunes
2. Those that want to be Windows Media Player
3. Those that want to be WinAmp
4. mpg123
Personally, I'd just use Rhythmbox and keep the fucker minimised so it didn't offend my eye. Amarok is a KDE program, so will drag in huge chunks of dependencies if you don't already have any QT/KDE programs installed.
It seems to me that the Linux wheel-reinventers have moved on from creating half-arsed text editors by the boatload to music and media players.

Are there any that want to be SonicStage?
I'm only half kidding... SonicStage has its own problems, sure, but I like its UI better than like iTunes. Rhythmbox is fine for playing but a PITA for organising. Hence my search for Something Else.
I knew that about Amarok. That's why I haven't tried it yet.

What he said.
It's what I used when I ran Linux.

I'm trying something called Exaile.
It claims to be based on Amarok's UI but written in GTK. On a small screen, it uses the real-estate much better than RB, though I'm finding the playlist/queuing system is unusual.

I use XMMS.
It's less assy than the rest, which is pretty much all there is to recommend it.
Rhythmbox is just a poor excuse for using Mono. It has always crashed and otherwise farted around on me.

You're thinking of Banshee.
Rhythmbox is a C program. But that's still a good heads-up re: Mono.

Meh, whichever. They both suck.
Rhythmbox crashed for me too.

Even more iTunes-alike than Rhythmbox...
Just 'cause Apple has had some success with that layout doesn't mean everyone else has to slavishly copy it... (hmm: I recall similar accusations againse Gnome/KDE vs Windows...)
Main problem with the "iTunes" layout is that it likes a lot of space, particularly vertically. This doesn't work on 1024x600. :-/

Running KDE here, so: Amarok
I've never spent time on iTunes, so no idea how similar it is in operation. It supports sync to device, playlists, minimizes to the task tray, etc.
