New How can I trace a DNS problem?
My reader in Houston just told me she's still getting a DNS error trying to connect to the blog. Her ISP is ATT. How do I figure out what she's seeing from there, and where the breakage is?

New Re: How can I trace a DNS problem?
Try 'host' using her nameserver, maybe?

host [options] clygm.com [her name server]

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New How do I identify her name server?
http://help.yahoo.co...elegation-11.html
AT&T Yahoo! uses the following name servers (IP addresses are usually not required):

Primary name server: yns1.yahoo.com
Primary IP address: 98.136.43.32
Secondary name server: yns2.yahoo.com
Secondary IP address: 66.196.84.168

drook@drook-desktop:$ host -v cooklikeyourgrandmother.com yns1.yahoo.com
Trying "cooklikeyourgrandmother.com"
Received 45 bytes from 98.136.43.32#53 in 117 ms
Trying "cooklikeyourgrandmother.com.domain_not_set.invalid"
Using domain server:
Name: yns1.yahoo.com
Address: 98.136.43.32#53
Aliases:

Host cooklikeyourgrandmother.com.domain_not_set.invalid not found: 5(REFUSED)
Received 68 bytes from 98.136.43.32#53 in 125 ms

If I'm doing that right, then Yahoo/AT&T doesn't have my site in their name servers.

New If I'm reading that right, Yahoo doesn't have me in DNS
Am I reading that right? And should I be seeing it in there?

New DING DING DING! Give that man a Cupie Doll!
New No, looks like that's only the address for ones they host
Tried looking up google.com on their servers and got nothing. That's not the DNS that their ISP clients use, they're the nameservers for domains they host.

New NO RECORDS what so ever in Yahoo
yns1/2 has NO DNS records: blog, forum, wildcard, mx, www... nothing.

DNS from yahoo provides support for ALL AT&T operations, including iPhone, Broadband (uVerse), Dialup, 3G/CDMA/4G wireless Internet and other things.
New Re: Try again... using "dig"
And even both yns1 and yns2 do not see it yet.

Well, from then on, we had a whale of a time. I took her to dinner, I took her to dance. I bought her a bouquet of flounders. And then I went home with her. And what did I get for my trouble? A case of the clams.
