Indeed.
Q:Is it proper to eat cheeseburgers with your fingers? A:No, the fingers should be eaten separately. |

And when I get them on the phone ...
I'd like them to explain why my ssh connections now point to carrierzone.com? On their Technology Portfolio page -- http://www.aplus.net/company/technology/ -- they claim, "All technology and infrastructure is ours. We donÂt outsource anything." But according to Carrierzone -- http://carrierzone.com/ -- "carrierzone is committed to protecting your network of outsourced web, email and e-commerce against abuse with our robust system of abuse management technologies and services."
So is their technology outsourced or not? --

I copied that link to their legal and investor relations
department. Also have tried tracking down a contact number for their CEO but havnt found it yet
will try again later. |
|
I can get his contact, but I'll have to pay for it
Maybe I'll just try first.last@domain and see what happens.
[edit] Nope, no joy. --
Drew |

dont pay for it, they are scraping the same stuff we are
just some of those places I dont want to do from work.

firstinitialLastname@domain?
e.g., mvitale@ .......?

Hmmm ...
I got a response over at cNet, with the VP in charge of customer relations saying he was giving my info to the GM and Escalation Manager, saying he'd have a supervisor contact me this morning. (Hasn't happened yet.)
Just talked to someone in customer relations (I called them) who is also a "floor lead" in tech support. I gave her the ticket number and she wasn't able to find it. The person she said she'll email the sysadmins to find out who is responsible for this ticket. And because she's in customer relations, and she'll be CC-ing management, she believes she'll get a response. Although they are "very busy right now". Gosh, I wonder why. === Ooh, neat! Phillip Spencer It was in fact first initial, last name. Thank you, Mike. --

Glad to hear you're finally getting somewhere!

I'm not the only one
With the problem they've got, I didn't think it was possible I was the only one, but this confirms it. http://forums.cnet.c...=forum-w;forums06

Nicely worded.
I'm of the "DNS/hosting/email all from three different providers" school, personally.

Need to fix it first so I can migrate away. Yeah, I've got backups, but it's a lot easier to do when everything is running.

Who else should I write?
I've written to Cringely, Scoble and Winer to see if I can get them talking about this. Who else has a big megaphone and isn't afraid to use it?

A few
SJVN/Stephen J. Vaughn-Nichols (multiple Places)
Carla Schroeder (Linux Today) Jason Perlow (yeah, I hate him... but he has a wide view) |

Maybe not needed
Drew Kime Dang, email was wrong for the VP of Customer Care. Hopefully Phil will forward it. --

That seems to have done the trick. :-)

They seemed much nicer on the phone this time
I guess a VP getting called out on a CNET forum rolls downhill.

Remember "United Breaks Guitars"?
If you really want it to get lots of eyeballs, you need to make a video.

PZ resorts to that technique, too.
It seems the commenting system on Pharyngula has been broken for years.
http://scienceblogs....etter_to_seed.php Scott and Mike have a big market for the software that runs this place just waiting for them... ;-) Cheers, Scott. |

IWT uses registration to stop that
Which stops 99% of it. The small amount of spam we see here is from people manually registering accounts to post.
Keeping spam out of comments with open registration is difficult, but not impossible. Hidden form fields (honeypots) and a few other techniques can kill almost all of it. Here's a good description of the techniques: http://nedbatchelder...ext/stopbots.html Regards,

Interesting. Thanks.
I see you posted a pointer to Ned's site there, too. :-)
Cheers, Scott. (Who often has trouble with Captchas, especially the fancy ones like - http://giveupinterne...hare-captcha-pic/ .) |

It's basically a solved problem.
