Post #314,016 by malraux 9/14/09 12:08:46 AM Reply	MacPro/MacBook Pro fan control I found this when I was researching why my MBP runs hot lately. http://www.conscius.de/~eidac/index.html - smcFanControl The program allows setting the fan speeds to a higher minimum, as well as measuring the CPU temp. My laptop had a temp of 180F(!) when I installed it. Now the fans have been running at 6000RPM for a few minutes and it's down to 133F. There is also an issue in the MacPro case design that causes hard drive bays 1 and 4 to run hotter. smcFanControl can set the minimum speed individually for each fan in the case. I've just set the hard drive fan up to 1000RPM from 500. Regards, -scott Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.

(Had read of some oblivious iMac users finally looking at iStat {duh} and seeing, yep: 170+ -- so I went for smc early on. Not a nb but it's built like one; needed to add only ~ 1-200 rpm to keep that bad old GPU diode under 130 F. mostly.) I colored the teensy display on top line Red / nice touch of an option.. The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. -- H.L.
