Back in 1981 Lockheed Burbank needed to send photographic negatives to Santa Barbara in the afternoon. Traffic was bad, so they used pigeons. The pigeons go there in half the time at 1% of the cost of sending a car.

Once a week they'd send a truck up to Santa Barbara at night when traffic was light to bring back some pigeons.

This went on for a few years, until Lockheed moved out of Burbank, and they said they never lost a pigeon.
