I hope it fires up the folks to do the right thing.
Cheers,
Scott.
One hell of a speech.

I missed your "live blogging".
We obviously had a different take on it. ;-)
I'm sure you noticed the tort-reform bone he threw to the Republicans. I think that'll play pretty well with much of their base. ;-) Boehner and McConnell must be wondering what hit them... Cheers, Scott. |

he only apologized cause he was told to
so it ranked right up there with "If my words offended anyone, I apologize" ...
"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow |

Or ...
"I am deeply saddened that my inappropriate comments have become a major distraction for my colleagues in the Assembly."

He was passionate, so he must be right.
Far right!

Amen, brother non-believers.. ie WOW!
Concur with others -- his finest speech/presentation since Inauguration. No 'base' (I noticed) left uncovered.
Oratory? Style.. sure, he can do that. But wisdom is in the ear of the beholder. Simple declarative sentences, (complete ones!) with perfect syntax: every single one Al Punte ... what a scintillating CONTRAST to Eight Fucking Years of pabulum, dissembling, fear-peddling, Talkin-to-Jesus sanctimony and ... all the rest of the brain-marauding hypocritical Shit the whole world had to 'eat'. Almost makes me feel proud to be a Murican! just this moment -- though the freight-car loads of monkeywrenches are still being passed out to the mouth-breathers, of whom there is always an abundance here in Disneyland. The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Now is the put up or shut up time for Obama
He has been trying to stay above the fray and let Congress work it's way through this. I think it has finally reached Obama that simply won't work, Congress is too dysfunctional and there is too much lobbying. He is going to have to get involved, do some dealing and bend a few arms to get anything worth signing through Congress. Now we get to see if Obama can actually do it, not just give a good speech.
