New macbook display question
circa 1997 I was trying to build a video wall with Sun equipment, I was laughed at by the local Mac folks who stated that mac's came with 4 display capability out of the box. Now puddling with my macbook, the local mac folks say only one external display can be supported. Is this because of the switch to intel?
thanx,
bill
New doubtful that they meant laptops, especially in 97
Mac's have supported multiple monitors since the release of the Macintosh II in 1987.

The primary improvement in the Mac II was Color QuickDraw in ROM, a color version of the graphics language which was the heart of the machine. Among the many innovations in Color QuickDraw were an ability to handle any display size, any color depth, and multiple monitors.

MacBooks don't have supported more than 1 external monitor - however, there is some technology from DisplayLink that will let you do it via USB.

There are USB->DVI and USB->VGA adapters, as well as monitors and projectors that can be directly driven by USB.

New thanx! no, those were towers back then
New Re: macbook display question
Only one true external display yes... for the MBP.

For the MacPro (tower machine), you can get up-to 12 displays with the right Video Cards... easily and be supported right away with little to no effort other than hooking up all the cables and the displays.

Now, I have the same possibility with the new PCIe stuff and a six PCIe slotted motherboard and even more with using the onboard video card (if it has one)

Of course HDMI can allows chaining ... and stacking and other formats. But that is just silly talk.
