New Your confused
Iroquois, Cherokee, Catawba, all practiced extensive farming which was supplemented with hunted meat.
White settlers practiced farming supplimented by hunting meat. Davy Crockett made his living hunting meat to sell in town. Not a whole lot of differences.
Were the Indians vicous fighters? Yes, knowing a few Iroquois if you ask them would you rather fight or have sex? Fight every time, they love it even today. Worse than the Irish on St. Paddy's.
The only point I have been trying to make was that the whites won due to numbers and adhesiveness with a bloodyminded wish to own it all.
The point you appear to support is that whites won thru moral superiority and a better way of life.
That is neither factual or true.

Please indicate how the white frontier settlements differed in a moral superior way than the Indian towns?
If the White towns were so great how come many whites intermarried and moved into Indian towns?

New Whites won due to a couple of things . .
One was the same way the Germans beat out the Scandanavians - take a little bit, then hold it. When it's secure enough, take a little bit more and hold it. Scandanavians and American Indians had a more mobile mindset.

Another major factor was technology, particularly the technology of mobility and the infrastructure to support it (warehouses, roads). Firearms were nice, but the previous long bow technology held nearly the same superiority. Huge amounts of resources could be moved where they were needed relatively quickly, by wagon, but especially by ship.

European sailing ships were truly "high technology". These large, tremendously complex machines, harnessing huge amounts of power from the wind, were designed to be handled and controlled reliably by a small crew, in the dark, in heavy rain, under extreme conditions of wind and wave. As such, they were highly successful.

These machines were also highly controllable, could be sailed forwards, backwards, sideways, and fairly shrply against the wind, and could be brought to dock without tug boats (which didn't exist anyway).

Of course, outfitting and running these machines took a tremendous amount of training and discipline. Every detail was carefully worked out and as uniform as possible from ship to ship to minimize crew retraining. In English parlance, methods just as good but "different" were labeled "Dutch" (and, in the dark and rain, you'd better know damned well which features of your ship were "Dutch").

"Sea Shanties" were part of the technology. They were pacing songs to coordinate the task of raising the anchors, a complex job involving the entire crew. In fact, the practical size to which European ships could be built was governed by how heavy an anchor the ships crew could raise.

Only the Europeans had developed the discipline and training to handle this technology. The Emperor of China bought a disarmed warship for study. His people were never able to figure out how to sail it, but he did learn by studying it that he had a major military problem.

New get there with the mostest, yup that works
The mobile technology to enable trade was extremely good but out at the sharp end of the frontier I dont think lifestyles of the red and white were too terribly different.
thanx,

New Note that the "take and hold" strategy...
was exactly the one outlined by Washington as the long-term goal, and the reason that until they were ready to take more land from the Indians, they wanted to be on the best possible terms with them.

The mismatch in numbers, and effectively infinite supply of potential immigrants to add to the US, was an overwhelming advantage.

Cheers,
Ben
