Tree in the back of my house is blowing itself apart. Might lose power; there's a big red cell overhead. If we go down, that's why.

Never lost power here
I'm approximately 5 miles north of you. In fact, the UPS never even beeped for a momentary shutdown. Sometimes ComEd amazes me with better-than-expected quality of service.
"Chicago to my mind was the only place to be. ... I above all liked the city because it was filled with people all a-bustle, and the clatter of hooves and carriages, and with delivery wagons and drays and peddlers and the boom and clank of freight trains. And when those black clouds came sailing in from the west, pouring thunderstorms upon us so that you couldn't hear the cries or curses of humankind, I liked that best of all. Chicago could stand up to the worst God had to offer. I understood why it was built--a place for trade, of course, with railroads and ships and so on, but mostly to give all of us a magnitude of defiance that is not provided by one house on the plains. And the plains is where those storms come from." -- E.L. Doctorow |

Re: Never lost power here
Same here. I have 5 large branches that the maple out back shed in the massive winds, but otherwise, we're unscathed.

We've been having some really bad ones too
I'm not sure where you are located, but our area and the Illinois area near Granite City, etc. have been hit over and over and over lately. Tornados, hail, straight line winds, flooding, you name it.
Luckily, we finally got the huge dying Pine tree by the corner of our house removed earlier this month! So far all we've sustained no damages. More storms coming though. Brenda ___________________________________________________________________

Wife and I were riding our motorcycles...
On Tuesday... 2 hours on the Dan Ryan on the way to 3800 North Pulaski Road, in touch and go traffic. And other 1.5 hours on the Stevenson to get to Willowbrook.
Rain Gear was a God send. Was in Springfield on Thursday morning ... black clouds over head and rained record amounts in 15 and 30 minutes. Fun. Oh well, could have picked a colder time frame. |
