I'll have to amend an earlier comment of mine.
In light of this, it seems that if the British had been more respectful of the US, and the US had reciprocated by allying with Britain in the war against France, then the Americans would certainly have made a difference after all. It would have been over more quickly.
But of course, The British didn't know this at the time.
