Arg. Back on the market.
Got fired.
It was a good thing - the exessive hours and stress were damaging my family, and I was too tired to realize it. And now I get to go with my daughter on her 6th grade camp trip. On the other hand, the money is all gone, so things are a bit scary.
Maybe I'll post details when I'm a bit less bitter and depressed. I was trying so damned hard to make it work.
Boss has offered to call me in as a consultant from time to time, at a higher rate than before, with a $100 trip charge. I've accepted, subject to availability.
Unemployement office has been called, job hunt resumed. The fabric store where my wife works has offered to hire me, but only as regular cheap help. I'll take it if I have to.

You do what you gotta do...
...sounds like the wife's place is a pretty understanding lot...every little bit helps.
Better days ahead, my friend.

Maybe a culture clash?

Ah well, at least you already found out you can do other kinds of things - and not freak. Valuable, that.

"Nah. Waited 'till I was in the truck."

Is it just me???
Or do I notice the "iwethey" crowd just doesn't get along???
I know I have the affliction...
Well anyway Mike, no time like the present to get caught up on the family matters.
We do have an opening to be posted soon here in Grand Rapids, MI.
Dunno if anyone wants it though.

Sorry to hear it.
Chin up old man, everything I'm hearing lately is more promising for the job scene.
Luck to ya.

Enjoy the time with the family

I am sorry to hear that
A friend of mine got fired because his alcaholsim and depression interfered with his work, but then later they let him work as a contractor. But they worked him really hard and he was under a lot of stress. They knew about his conditions, and like one of my former employers, they didn't care about it and kept piling on the work. In May 1999 he eventually killed himself. He had other issues too, but I think his employment issue was a major factor. So be careful, and take it easy. If you end up like I did, or my friend did, seek help right away before something happens. My friend shut out almost everyone until it was too late for help.
Good luck, I hope that you find something else out there.

Bummer, but... you're in Milwaukee, WI area, right?
Unless things have changed during the week I've been in Austin, my employer is looking for application support type people. Definitely first level, and possibly second level support. I just fired off an email asking about openings.
We're a smallish software company. Smallish means there are opportunities (if wanted) to wear many hats. I do programming, 3rd level support (aka, programmer with some free time!), documentation, QA. Plus whatever else my boss dreams up. Never a dull moment.
I'll post more details here when I get them.
Good luck
