Get a used one...
be careful but you can do well with "last generation" as long as they use interchangeable lenses you'll protect your investment.

Nikon D70 is highly regarded.
"Ah -- I take it the doorbell doesn't work?" |

Well, if I went that way . . .
. . I'd need to look a Canon first. It occurred to me this morning that I'd rescued a Cannon AE-1 acamera body nd a bunch of (seemingly unused) lenses among my brothers junk. If the lenses fit a digital body it'd be something to think about.

|
I would say keep the body and get a digital back
But a quick google shows nobody seems to be making one for the AE-1, since it's about 25 years old and discontinued.

just need an adapter
http://www.adorama.c...D+to+EF+convertor
AE1 uses the FD mount, where the newer/current Canon models use the EF mount. |
|
Well, I've read up on the adapters and . . .
. . you just lose too many features, picture quality, infinity focus and other stuff - just not worthwhile. Fortunately I don't really need an SLR (provided this G10 works out as well as every reviewer says it will) so I'll just abandon that idea.

Well, yes, it does depend on what you already have. :-)
I had a D70 for a while until my ex-wife stole it, and recently organised a second-hand one for my father. But we're slightly Nikon wonks; he has a 35yr old Nikkorex, I have an F60 and we both have a few extra lenses. So a D70 was obvious.
But if you have a Canon system, then there are Canon DSLRs which are just as good. I just don't know which as I never looked at Canon systems. :-) Canon does have the (slight) disadvantage that they've changed their lens mounts over the years, whilst Nikon have largely only ever extended their's. But converters can be found and lenses can be modified. Wade. "Ah -- I take it the doorbell doesn't work?" |

Have an AL-1
Said to have the most accurate rangefinder/auto-focus complex ever, when introduced.
It was that one -- which was my experience of the CIEIOs of Canon. Already told that story; will henceforth remain biased that.. the Suits at Canon are/were? a Different breed. Fine camera re the rest of the specs, subsequently Googled. Can't fault your pickiness though re the Nikon -- {sheesh} if you can't even readily read Red.. Rediculous! Cameras though ... heroin for any techno afflicted. Few have actual Reasons (as with Red) -- marketing feeds the, Got to 'Have' Every Accessory alligator. (Whether or not I'll ever Use that 1000 mm Maksutov catadioptric mirror reflex more than thrice/decade) So many cameras.. so few Adamses, Steichens and ... only One WIlliam Frieze-Green at the beginning. Stay chilly. |

Oh, yeh? Have an FTb! :)
Not used in many many yeas.
