They're forcing an outcome.
It "works" because of the properties of multiples of 9.
Step 1: Pick 1 to 10
Step 2: Multiply Step 1 by 9: 9 to 90 by 9
Step 3: If > 10, add digits: 9, (1+8=)9, (2+7=)9, ... (9+0=)9
Step 4: Step 3 - 5 = 4
Step 5: 4th Letter of the Alphabet = D
Step 6: (There are 2 countries that start with D, in English anyway)
and so on.
A better "trick" like this that isn't so obvious is:
Consider a group of N people. How large does N need to be for there to be at least a 50% probability of two of the people in that group having the same birthday (ignoring year)?

Well, they didn't force hard enough.
I picked Koala rather than Kangaroo.

Cow in the Dominican Republic eating...
... dunno... I looked up fruits that started with "W" and only found "water apple", whatever that is.

Water apple
Could be just about anything. Apple is often used as a really generic term. The French word for potato translates to "earth apple".

Perhaps water apples grow in Lake Huron...

Re: They're forcing an outcome.
I picked a Kinkajou in Djibouti eating some fruit beginning with a u.
Only fruit I can find is: Ugni
Don't know what it is. (Yes its a Strawberry Flavored Round Berry... etc)
Of course I watched something the other day that was about the Kinkajou. And another one about the Republic of Djibouti and the proximity to Somalia.

I took Djibouti as being a city.
The CIA lists - https://www.cia.gov/...e-world-factbook/ :
Denmark
Dhekelia
Djibouti
Dominica
Dominican Republic
