one for drook, that didnt take long
http://features.csmo...-justice-roberts/
Get this. ThereÂs a law professor out there who says Obama should take the oath over again just to be sure.
Boston UniversityÂs Jack Beermann told Carolyn Lochhead at the San Francisco Chronicle that although it is unlikely to be challenged in court, just to play it safe perhaps President Obama should do it again.
ÂIt would take him 30 seconds, he can do it in private, itÂs not a big deal, and he ought to do it just to be safe, Berman said. ÂItÂs an open question whether heÂs president until he takes the proper oath.Â
Just when you thought the clamor over his birth certificate was overÂ

*Hell*, no!
Leave this out here as wingnut bait. They'll swarm around the episode, squirting venom that might otherwise be discharged to harmful effect.
I note, incidentally, that the founder of WingNutDaily, your favorite morning treat, has shown his ass anew on this solemn occasion.

Fortunately, the effect of prayer is nil.
Let the assholes vent and stew and rot in their disillusionment with events.
Or, having been forsaken by their Lord, perhaps they should consider the value of having prayed for McCain's victory.

a capricious God
...the kind who spares one trailer while sending the tornado lethally into the one adjacent where they're praying just as devoutly...well, you can call Him humorous or you can just not call (on) Him at all, and conduct your affairs as though He doesn't exist. I recommend the latter course, which has the advantage of permitting you to use the "o" in "God."

It's a pronoun.
So do you know his real name, at least the name they were trying to suppress at the time?

That pocket Koran, perhaps?
Or maybe a Torah?
http://www.nytimes.c...ml?pagewanted=all
The family that produced Barack and Michelle Obama is black and white and Asian, Christian, Muslim and Jewish. They speak English; Indonesian; French; Cantonese; German; Hebrew; African languages including Swahili, Luo and Igbo; and even a few phrases of Gullah, the Creole dialect of the South Carolina Lowcountry. Very few are wealthy, and some  like Sarah Obama, the stepgrandmother who only recently got electricity and running water in her metal-roofed shack  are quite poor.
I knew his family was very diverse, but not quite that diverse!
I liked Obama's comment afterward: http://www.talkingpo...n_the_do-over.php
Obama stood and walked over to make small talk with pool as roberts donned his black robe.
"Are you ready to take the oath?" Roberts asked.
"I am, and we're going to do it very slowly," obama replied.
Oath took 25 seconds.
After a flawless recitation, roberts smiled and said, "congratulations, again."
Obama said, "thank you, sir."
Smattering of applause.
"All right." Obama said. "The bad news for the pool is there's 12 more balls."
(The last is reference to the 10 inaugural balls held last night that ran on longer than planned.)
Cheers,
Scott.

Yep: Faux's on it
http://www.salon.com...2/beck/index.html
On cue, Beck criticizes lack of Bible at swearing-in
Earlier Thursday, I wrote about some conservatives fretting over the lack of a Bible at Barack Obama's second swearing-in as president. As I noted at the time, the meme hadn't quite gone viral, though there was still plenty of time for that to happen. Well, new Fox News host Glenn Beck took that ball and ran with it on his show Thursday afternoon.
In fact, Beck took it one step further, claiming, "I've checked -- we have never had a president sworn into office without a Bible... Does this bother, or just make anybody go, 'Wow, that's a first?'"
Research is apparently not Beck's forte, as ThinkProgress points out. There have been at least four presidents who didn't use a Bible at their swearing-in. Additionally, Slate's Noreen Malone notes, "There are no known inauguration Bibles for presidents John Adams through John Tyler; in fact, there's no concrete evidence that those early presidents used a Bible at all for the oath."
Bitch.. bitch.. bloviate..

What about those past do-overs?
Obama's the third President to do-over the oath.
I bet none of them used a bible. The bible is just theater, it has no official standing.
Personally, swearing on a bible offends my faith. It makes an idol out of what ought to be a tool of faith. Why is it that I, a Catholic (you know, with the statues and the saints and Mary and all that stuff the Protestants call idolatry) who notes that there is no scriptural basis for monotheism, am the only person I know of who is bothered by blatant violations of the First Commandment? It only bothers me when the violation is by someone who claims to follow the Commandments. But when a bible ('a' and lower case intentional. It is not "the word of God" it is a bunch of paper and ink that could be decoded into "the word of God", but probably won't be, particularly when it is a historic artifact that is too precious to actually read.) is used as a strange god, that pretty solidly establishes that the code being violated is the one in use. Flag idolatry tends to be worse, but isn't self-referentially unethical. Just immoral and almost always accidentally unethical.
I need to lay off reading Ambrose Bierce for a while.
-----------------------------------
Definitions: "Unethical" means violating a specific code of ethics. "Immoral" means violating the sense of right and wrong without necessarily a reference to any particular code.

Nit
Using the translation listed on Wikipedia: "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; you shall have no other gods before me."
Doesn't say there are no other gods, just that you shall have no others in higher esteem.

Does that mean you can't have other gods at the *same* esteem?
Say... Something like "God" == "Allah"
Huh? What is your take on that?

allah is the same being
with an extra prophet, god didnt change, nature of worship did. They did start with an interesting premise, that there is a full stop, this way until the messiah, messiach, 13th mullah etc shows up, other folks leave room for more direction
