And Too LATE: to declare marital er, Martial Law!
The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.

Anyone else watch the "End Of An Error" address tonight?
It was fun, in a MST3K sort of way.

Not likely
Now that he doesn't need to pretend to be a cowboy for the press any more, he can sell the ranch and take a couple of months to decompress at Kennebunkport.

Laura bought a house in Houston.
Alex
|
|
Really? I thought they were looking in Dallas.
Houston would make more sense in some respects, as that's Pappy's base.
Cheers, Scott. |

You're right! I stand corrected.
Alex

Well, thank fück for that.
I was beginning to feel as though Gee Dub was The New American Way.
Now, all Obama has to do is not fuck it up. And all we have to do, this side of the water, is not fuck it up, too. If we re-elect Gee Bee again next year, we deserve the arse-raping that will so surely follow. That said, you'd have to be a brave gambler to back Labour next time out. |

to include a moving box.
Not enough time, I guess. But why is an important guy, or an old guy, moving his own boxes anyway? I sure wouldn't. |

more important
did he use more trucks to move out than to move in? Inquiring minds need to know :-)

And there's a popular prophet I read about . . .
. . who needs to come up with a reason why "It looked like he was inaugurated but he wasn't really - it was all just a show - like the landing on the moon".
|
|
Easy... he bobbled the oath.
Regards,
-scott Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson. |
|
The Chief justice bobbled it.
|
|
He became Pres. at noon, per Constitution; oath or no oath.
Can't recall the Pres who took his: over a Legal Code.. wayback when they recognized separation-of etc. etc.
|
|
Yup.
http://www.law.umkc....ationconstit.html
The 20th Amendment moves the date of inauguration from March to "noon on the 20th day of January." Under the Constitution, the old president continues to hold full power through 11:59:59, and then power shifts at noon. Article II, Section 1 requires that the new president, before executing any duties, take a prescribed oath or affirmation. To avoid a constitutional power vacuum, the Inauguration Day program is certain to schedule the swearing in for as close as possible to noon. The Chief Justice of the United States typically administers the oath, although the Constitution does not require that the oath be performed by the Chief Justice Cheers, Scott. (It won't keep the wingnuts from caterwauling about it, though.) |

Re: He became Pres. at noon, per Constitution; oath or no oa
Its why I typed 3+ minutes ago when I typed it.

True, noted. But wingnuts are not reality-based (AJG's post)

The DEED IS DONE!

How pleasing.
You now appear to have a President who has English as a first language.
{listening to speech live on BBC web wossname} |

Re: How pleasing.
Same here, best coverage.
MSNBC had the best streaming of the domestics, but the announcers were frakking idiots. George H. comes tottering out, and one of the idiots says "heh, that's why old people go South for the winter." Moron. Regards,
-scott Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson. |

Great speech.
Time to execute now, though.
Oh, and Chimp? Cheney? Don't let the door hit you where the good Lord split you, ok? Regards,

That part we've known...
he's a great speaker.
Let's see if he can get it done. I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.

You must not have been watching Fox.
They said there was nothing memorable in it. Who are you going to believe the lefty MSNBC or the no-spin Fox?
Unfortunately, my campsite has a great tree blocking a good shot at Tampa/St. Pete, the closest metro area, and the best digital signal is Fox with NBC a poor second. And you know how annoying a broken digital signal is. The BHO speech brought tears to my eyes! Alex
|
|
Actually I watched it on the BBC Live Feed. :-)
And I didn't listen to the commentary.
Regards,
-scott Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson. |
|
CNN-HD had a very good doing of the speech
Nearly ZERO comments. I mean nearly zero.
And the couple I remember were on the order of "Cool" And Frickin' Glenn Beck (now on Fox) can KISS MY WHITE RACIST ASS. |
|
Fox was actually quiet during the inaugural speech itself.
But, they over-talked during the poetry reading. Inconsiderate bastards!
Alex
|
|
There are ~no Right-wacko poets/listeners. Figures re Fox..
|
|
Its now official.
Now we get to blame him for everything!
I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose freewill.
|
|
now beep, thats no way to act
gotta save some room for pelosi and reid :-)

They're the ones with the real power to muck this up
