New SMS / Email issues
I'd like to stop using IM on my blackberry (corporate issue).
But I want to communicate with someone with a cell phone who does not have web access, just IM.

This person is on AT&T, as am I.

Can I email to their phone number @ att.net (or some other tail), and if they "IM" back will it be converted to an email on the AT&T gateway side, or is this something I need to setup myself?
New Not 100% sure, but...
...I know that myphonenumber@cingularme.com still works (as of the last time I tried, which was over the summer.) The part I'm not sure about is the auto-conversion of IM-to-email like you're requesting.

New try it and see
dunno what they use over there, they have several legacy systems. I would try it as an email first
New Works
area+phonenumber@txt.att.net

When the person replies it shows up as email.

A slight delay, but fine.
New its the same as the iPhone.
@txt.att.net

The 10 digit number is needed.
