New Anyone on stackoverflow.com?
This is Joel Spolsky's experiment at a quite different way of collecting community knowledge about Good Programming.

I am on there (as 'staticsan') with a few answers here and there. But I notice it seems to be attracting the sort of programmer who defends brace-styles in coding.

Wade.
New Why would anyone need to defend that?
The "correct" brace style.
After all, there is only one.
New Yes, and it's mine.

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New Which one?
I've seen your code. You have had multiple brace-styles over the years. They change on a whim, it seems.....

New As opposed to now, when you are old and unwise?

New Well, that was kinda my point. :-)
If people need to defend the notion of always using braces around an if() expression, then I think maybe they might be programming at the limits of their ability.

There's a certain amount of hostility about certain langauges, too. There's the anti-PHP crowd, the anti-Perl crowd, the anti-MS crowd...

Wade.
New Why wouldn't you defend that?
There is a very good reason for always using braces around if()s.

Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson.
New Forget the braces...
...the lack of space between the if and parenthesis is the major lapse. :-)
