Do we want a wiki?

We used to have one
it was a good place to house commonly needed stuff

Not unless its fully "apt-get" upgradeable and is...
able to have external auth... for like what the new J stuffs may offer.
Of course... Its not me maintaining the machine. |

Good in theory.
But our previous one was very slow to read. I don't know whether it was TWiki specific, or even specific to that build, but it was very frustrating to me to have to wait so long to have a page appear.
A general dumping ground for HTML pages might be simpler? Hyperlinking between them would be difficult with such an arrangement, though. :-( I guess it depends on what we want it for. If it's for more than just a convenient spot for simple relatively persistent HTML, then someone would probably have to babysit it and make sure that it wasn't attacked by comment spam, etc., etc. Nothing's simple. :-( Thanks. Cheers, Scott. |

The bloke who was the original developer of Twiki...

I'd suggest a different Wiki product - perhaps MediaWiki, or Meatball. Or anything that doesn't have a loony in charge. |

We use MediaWiki at work
Although I'm not the admin, so I have no idea of that part of how the product works.

I've set up MediaWikis before.
Easy-peasy, TBH. And once they're configured the first time, you generally don't have to touch 'em, except via in-Wiki changes. And that's just editing the silly pages.

I liked having it
It's a good mechanism for documenting events, meaning it's good when it's "about" something.
I second Greg's suggestion to -- if possible -- integrate authentication with this site. I know TWiki could authenticate via LDAP, I don't know what is possible with the current IWETHEY code. If a specific flavor of Wiki makes integration possible, that's IMO a huge mark in its favor. --

I think the choice of engine is important.
With the popularity of Wikipedia, MediaWiki is a widely known platform. TWiki was just a little too different.

If we don't want to start from scratch...
The HTML of at least some of the versions of TWikIWeThey is at the Internet Archive:
E.g. http://web.archive.o...ki/bin/view/Main/ (I don't know if that's (from October 2006) the latest good version - I just picked one at random.) Someone who's an expert with Wget might be able to snag a local copy with the appropriate relative links. Perhaps. Cheers, Scott. |

I have the Twiki backup somewhere
