Many people risk being in harm's way; some are stupid about it and die immediately. Some survive horrendous odds. Most are in between (?) Is 'safe' and comfortable - the only way worth living?

I don't know what his personality is (though he was described as blah blah gentle blah blah ad nauseum), but there is "safe", "dangerous", and "stupid".

Pearl appears to have been flat-out stupid.
