that we lament the transition to what we now call "middle age?" I did, or would have had I not been so preoccupied and unhappy that I only noticed it some years after the fact. But in most human cultures, and for most of human history and prehistory, folks may not have welcomed the infirmities, but they were damned relieved to be around to complain about them.
