Police in the US state of Florida have arrested an activist for feeding the homeless in downtown Orlando.
According to police, Food Not Bombs charity group spokesman Eric Montanez was charged with violating a controversial law against feeding large groups of destitute people in the city centre.

The Orlando law, which is supported by local business owners who say the homeless drive away customers, has been challenged in court by civil rights groups.
It allows charities to feed more than 25 people at a time within 3.2 kilometres of the Orlando City Hall only if they have a special permit.
They are able to receive two permits a year.

Not wanting to see the homeless in the streets is nothing new. Not wanting to spend public funds on the homeless is unsurprising too. Not wanting to deal a problem is common the world over. What I find weird is enacting a law to impede private charity towards them.
2 permits per charity per year is nowhere near enough. Other times, the homeless are going to starve or, more likely, obtain food by means we'd rather they didn't. This will make the problem worse. This is not merely wishing the problem would go away but not admitting it, this is putting in effort to create starvation and get people robbed and burgled but not admitting it.
Are the Orlando legislators really determined to kick the homeless, kick some bleeding heart do-gooders or both? Or do they think the homeless are created by charity handouts or something?
