New Ron Paul pulls in some big money
[link|http://www.realclearpolitics.com/politics_nation/2007/10/exclusive_paul_tops_5_mil_for.html|Real Clear Politics]
Texas Congressman Ron Paul, an anti-war libertarian making his second run at the White House, will report having raised $5.08 million in the third quarter. The number, which rivals those of John McCain and Bill Richardson, was boosted thanks to last-minute online fundraising that brought in more than $1.2 million in the last week of the quarter alone.

Ron is now pulling in money that matches some of the main stream candidates. Which means he will have enough money for TV ads. If those work for him he could challenge the Republican nomination.

New Dunno.
If Paul does well in fund-raising, I think the most he could do is lay a foundation for 2012. Too many things would have to change in the Republican party for him to get the nomination this time around. E.g. it's hard for me to imagine them nominating someone who wants to go back to the [link|http://www.house.gov/paul/congrec/congrec2006/cr021506.htm|gold standard] this time around.

Cheers,
Scott.
New It is an outside chance
To have a chance, Ron needs the rest of the party split. And he needs to come on strong at the end before information about how radical his position really is gets widely publicized.

Right now he certainly hast the first, and that looks to remain that way. As for the second, we shall see.
