Samba drive mapping question
My office recently went from Domain to ADS. My Win2K (server/desktop) has X: drive mapped to a Linux Samba share. Samba is using local password authentication. I do NOT want to tie into the ADS for this. All of a sudden my desktop "forgets" my login information and forces me to type name and password to mount my X: drive on every login.
Is this a local setting that I can change?

Re: Samba drive mapping question
afaik, you can only do it by upgrading to XP, or Server 2003

It would be the same setup for...
Mapping a a drive to a "plain old Windows'98 machine"

Re: Samba drive mapping question
Mostly a WAG but, try looking at Stored User Names and Passwords (Start Menu->Control Panel->Stored User Names and Passwords) and if there isn't already an entry relating to your share, add one (servername servername/username password). Also Google the name of that dialog and Samba to see if any of the issues others are having apply to your situation.

It's there on my w2k3 server
And using his arcane magical incantations he is now apparently on W2k3.
PS: It's also available under User Accounts on XP.

Interesting
So there was nothing in the box, so I created and entry. Of course, it didn't work, but in my experimentation I stumbled over making it work. I disconnected the share, and then rather than use the "map network drive" box I typed the server\\share into Explorer. That gave me to name/password box, which included the option for saving for later. That in turn created a correct entry in the "Stored User Names and Passwords" dialog.
