The problem was that their three Iphones were racking up a bill for data charges using foreign phone charges. The Iphone regularly updates e-mail, even while it's off, so that all the messages will be available when the user turns it on.
you could take the battery out but that requires a soldering iron

New Apple is in a brave new market.
They are at risk of getting creamed, if not by their 'customers' then by AT&T.

A battery I can't remove? That's risky in a device like a mobile phone because you can never be truly sure it's _really_ completely off, Apple^H^H^H^H^HSteve Jobs' design intentions notwithstanding.
