I have Google Desktop installed on a couple of PCs running Win2k. It's a nice tool, but it seems like it has some quirks that are beginning to annoy me.

I have:

Google Gadgets Analog Clock 2007
Google Desktop News Gadget 2007
Google Desktop Stocks Gadget 2007 (Showing DJI and INX)
Google Desktop System Monitor 2007 (Showing CPU and Memory) with a 10 s update interval (at the moment)
Calendar Plugin (2005)
Google Desktop Weather Gadget 2007

When the sidebar is visible, the CPU load in Windows Task Manager is spiky and has a minimum of 5-7%. Some of the spikes go up to 100%. If I minimize the sidebar, the CPU load drops to 0-2%, and the biggest spikes are only up to about 50%.

Does anyone know what's going on with this thing? The CPU load itself isn't much of an issue by itself, but there are times when the whole system become sluggish for a second or so and I'm thinking it's related. I was wondering if anyone has already done the leg-work to solve this mystery.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Scott.
