Welcome to IWETHEY!

New There was no vandalism
Since your [link|http://z.iwethey.org/forums/render/forum/show?forumid=5|user guidelines] states:

4. Users may edit their own posts

and that's all that was done. If vandalism was intended there would be real damage. The site makes lovely use of REST principles and is thus most scriptable.

But I don't want to do that. I had no intention of it even being noticed since nearly everything has scrolled off the current pages.

You can honor my request, change the username in question, sanitize or remove the posts, and take me at face value when I say I didn't expect to trigger the new posts feature and we can part friends. That would be cool.

Or you can stay stubborn and pissy and you and I will go to war - everybody loses - mostly the users. Now everyone knows whats up. Its a simple request.

Your call. Be cool. Or be really busy and a jerk all at the same time. FWIW, I'm not working just now - I have all day to fuck with things and it won't all be here. How much free time do you have and is it worth it?
New Ban the fscker to boot.
New And the call the feds on first hint of further attack.
New Yeah - change his username and password
And we can all get on with our lives - non? 60 seconds of SQL.
New Behave and stop making threats
You're not helping.
New Don't go there.
One of the reasons why this software exists is because a certain notorious user (N.K.) was editing posts covertly in previous versions. It was designed, very early on, to make edits clearly visible to readers. It's a feature. IOW, edits here have historical baggage. You should have remembered that.

Regulars here have known that the only effective way to get information removed is by contacting admin. And that is only done in very rare circumstances.

I think you're tilting at windmills here. Erasing thousands of comments here will do nothing about the copies elsewhere (like the Wayback Machine). If you want to disappear, stop posting. 99+% of people will forget eventually. Those who really want to get information on you won't look here anyway.

Don't make threats. While we could argue about whether various [link|http://www.ibls.com/internet_law_news_portal_view.aspx?s=latestnews&id=1700|laws apply], attacking a site isn't going to look good on your Permanent Record (so to speak).

Try to relax a little, Ok?

My $0.02.

Cheers,
Scott.
New dont even think about going there
you are worried about googling your name HAH! There is some loverlu canadian sites that may need to know about you. You want to go away? fine. You want to be like yer current moniker but tied to your real name? Your choice entirely.

New So your solutiuon is to turn yourself into a hacker?
Anyone with half a brain will be able to link the old to this...so to add insult to injury you've now hit the public record with threatening behavior.

Based on the limited amount I know of the current situation, I doubt that was your intention...it is, however, now the result.

Think this through very carefully.

New Oooo . . now BP's going to be pounced upon . . .
. . for politically incorrect use of the honorable term "hacker".
[link|http://www.aaxnet.com|AAx]
New Probably...but it >is< the common use of the term now
and I have more respect for his abilities as a programmer than to call him out on this activity (which only qualifies him currently as a script kiddy).

He's definitely threatening "Black Hat" activity, though.

New I know it >is< the common use, and I use it . . .
. . exactly that way - which is why I'm constantly pounced upon by PC (politically correct - not personal computer) geeks and nerds.

This despite the current usage being more appropriate. The term "hacker" may have come from makers of crude furniture and in computers originally referred to unplanned and crudely executed code - a "hack".

Now the coding community is trying to enforce it as a designation of skill and respect. It's an exercise in futility, but then what can you expect from members of a community that accepts "nerd" and "geek" as perfectly acceptable designations for themselves.

and everything else that you said. :-)

New I'm already a vandal - right?
I edited my content - no rule against that.

The whole world goes apeshit because of a design flaw in the software.
Clue - edited posts over one month old shouldn't be marked unread. Fixed. Fuck.

If I meant harm - you'd still be cleaning up.

New Dependent on reaction
An "oops, sorry" would have removed that tag.

A chest thumping "I'll do worse if you don't do what I want" probably won't do much.

And ANY new activity should get a corresponding "unread" mark, no matter how old, regardless of how you think it should work. That was the entire point of adding that feature in the first place...based on the activity of another former member. (assumption being you are deciding to become another former member for whatever reason).

New step back and take a deep breath
you annoyed a bunch of people unintentionally. The guidelines also state that drive by flaming is not allowed. Drive by empty messages "could" be construed as such. Instead of threats etc just go oops and hang around (welcome from me at least) or go away, no other action is either required or needed.
thanx,
bill

New Re: There was no vandalism
The user guidelines (note: not "rules") also state:

1) "IWETHEY is a benign autocracy, with actual intervention kept to an absolute minimum. Please do not make the mistake of presuming this is democratically run."

and

2) "Participants are expected to conduct themselves as professionals."

You're treading a very dangerous line here with me. Had you been patient I would have gotten around to your requests. Now I'm more concerned about some jackass threatening my website and unspecified other things.
-scott anderson

"Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson..."
New Sorry - that was low
Since you made the following offer (your words):

1) Admit and retract the threats, publicly, under your *original* login....

2) I will immediately change the name on your account.

3) When I get time, I will scrub your posts as I see fit.

Please consider this my apology. You seemed really stubborn and uncommunicative and I wanted to get your attention.

So - to reiterate - I tried to solve a problem quietly and it blew up in my face. Then I got called a vandal which seemed pretty harsh. I had no intention of disrupting or damaging the site. I thought it would just happen quietly noone would notice. I still have no intention of disrupting the site though I admit I gave that impression and I'm sorry for that.

Hopefully now everybody gets what they want and we can now move on.
New I still don't get it. And neither, it seems, do you.
Me: How the fuck could you think that would do anything "quietly"??? Have you never seen a post edited by anyone else here?

You: When you bury all new posts for a day or two under a gazillion "New!" LRPD icons, "vandal" isn't harsh at all but perfectly neutrally descriptive.
