Welcome to IWETHEY!

New It's quite an interesting situation.
Per [link|http://us.ft.com/ftgateway/superpage.ft?news_id=fto081320072048388904&referrer_id=yahoofinance|Financial Times], that 33 million shares is only 10% of the company for about $957M. EMC bought the whole company for $635M in 2004.

2.5% of VMware has already been sold to Intel and 1.6% to Cisco. I bet you they did not pay $29/share. Other than making a quick buck, it's interesting to me that Intel, a victim (because of reduced processor sales) of virtualization bought into VMware. EMC continues to own own the remaining 85.9% of VMware.

I can't believe all of VMware is worth $11 billion.

In full disclosure, I'm an EMC shareholder.

New It does seem like a "get cash quick" scheme.
Virtualization is becoming more important, but VMWare is getting a lot of competition in that space now. It does seem to be a pricey stock, but we'll see.

Cheers,
Scott.
New Heck, even Microsoft promisses something in a year.
Innovating again! :)

New Wonder how they're gonna keep Linux from running...
...in their virtualized sandbox? I suspect that for Micros~1, virtualization means how to run 2 or more version of Vista on the same machine.

(First, get 16GB of RAM...)

New vmware has decent penetration as for EMC
everyone uses them, no one likes them and a startup called 3par is aiming right at the dmx market. With 3par no fancy service contracts needed. Admins can fully provision and manage and they have true thin provisioning for just in time disk purchases. Blue Arc is aimed at the second tier storage.
thanx,
