What would YOU give for an iPhone?

Not more than a buck or two. It's only a phone.

Ditto Likewise.
Whilst it looks interesting, other phone makers will respond soon enough. Plus the rabidity of a significant portion of Apple followers is a deterrent.
I'd rather Sony Ericsson keep developing their current mid-range phones. That is a truly capable platform.

Well, no, it's not.
But if you only want a phone, you'd be wasting money on an iPhone.

And on just about every phone
A phone should initiate calls and receive calls. Period.
No need for a camera. Or music player. Or GPS. Or video player. Or photo viewer. Or more that a couple of ring tones. Or internet browsing. Or wallpaper. Or games. Or tracking capability.
Last good phone made: Motorola Startac, which I'll keep using, even though Verizon keeps wanting me to downgrade to a current multifunction phone.

So buy a Nokia 1100 or Motorola F3
and stop worrying about the iPhone and any other phone with features that you don't personally want.
You are catered for.

WHy buy? My StarTac works just fine.
And until it is completely dead, I'm going to keep it.
Oh, the new phones are mandated to have the "i spy" chip installed. Phones without cannot be activated (according to Verizon). According to Verizon, if my phone becomes deactivated for whatever reason, they cannot reactivate it. Security trumps all.

No spy chips over here.
But then, you can be triangulated with your Startac, so no biggie.

I'd let someone give me one. Then sell it.
AT&T only lost me as a customer right out the gate.
